It is not easy to be attentive during long journeys by public transport. While you are stuck with your thoughts at the next meeting, it can happen that you suddenly miss the transfer station because you have not followed the subway display.

The MoveMe app is supposed to help you not to miss your own station while you are
tired or lost in thought during the journey.

How can people travel by public transport without keeping constantly attention on the travel route?

PROBLEM

After a stressful day people who drift off or even fall asleep during the home journey must remain attentive enough to not miss their transfer. In countries like Japan or Taiwan, falling asleep during the ride is not unusual. Most navigation apps describe the itinerary, but rarely help you to get on or off the train at the right time within the right place. Therefore, especially when traveling unknown routes, it can be annoying for users to keep attention to their itinerary.

PROCESS

Research on what people usually do while traveling by public transport

Conducting interviews with tourists and commuters

Creating  a nudging interaction & prototypes for a Micro-App

APPROACH

A navigation system is designed to help users to change or get off at the right stations by sending notifications via vibration. This should enable the user to concentrate on other things while driving or to relax during the journey.

UNDERSTANDING & OBSERVATION

For understanding the users  we conducted methods like: multiple interviews, a survey and a immersion method for understanding the emotional journey of the users.

Our assumption was confirmed in the evaluation that most of the people interviewed would often use the public transport to rest or even sleep and that they sometimes forget where to change. Therefore we created a POV to work with and different Personas.

PROTOTYPING

MAP

MoveMe helps you to double check your itinary with the integrated map. Like normal maps it shows you the location and the route.

ROUTE OPTIONS

The route options show you the distance and how often and how long you have to transfer or walk.

SETTING

Once you have chosen your route, you can set up a vibration alarm to subtly remind you to change or get off the train.
